My son.

or... have you ever seen the movie The Jerk? "I've found my special purpose!"

Why do you need a purpose that comes from outside yourself?

Or rather, purpose is derived from yourself as a human. You have social relationships that create the demands on yourself for caring, kindness, and involvement. You don't feel a need to justify your caring by saying it is required by some religious belief. You care because humans care. That is your nature. You don't have to assume that humans are going to have evil natures or purposes. That is silly.

Your individual real needs, not to be confused with wants, also create purposes.

Your life is a complex weave of these needs and positive self generated purposes.

When you are dependent on a purpose coming from outside yourself you are setting yourself up to be a puppet of some other human (certainly not a God) who will tell you what to do, think, believe, want, give, and every aspect of your life that you abandoned to others to control.

Now, I think (Just my opinion) that life without Religion would be different. Anarchy would be there to a point, because Laws are based off of religion. I mean Hammurabi had an obelisk containing Laws and mentions "One God." (Louvre Museum, Paris) And this in Abraham's day. So maybe, since morals might be different. If you didn't have belief that there was some higher power(All types included) a lot of people would be taking "Justice" into their own hands. Or maybe victimizing the weak because that's what they are.

i dont have a purpose im here so i might as well make the best of it. i dont need a religion to be a good person. there is no heaven, no hell, and nothing after we die. it may be a shock to you, but some of us dont need an "eternal reward" for doing good things. we do it to help others live a better life, and thats it. religion was invented because people wanted to know where we came from, and why we are here. they wanted to know the answer to life, the universe, and everything (42, in case you were wondering). now that we are beginning to know, people wont let go of their traditions, no matter how ridiculous.

It comes from your knowledge, your needs, your will to survive and reproduce. That is after all our only purpose, to reproduce. BUt if your saying that religion gives you some higher purpose it doesn't. It gives people a false sense of security that there s something after we die and we will see all of our friends when we are on the other side. Religion is a way to make people conform. There is no purppose in life, you live, you reproduce, and then you die thats it, your purpose is to live and have fun.

The question of all ages.

What is the purpose of life?

Nobody knows the answer. Well, nobody knows the DEFINITIVE answer. Religious types might sway toward "serving God" (or whatever deity they choose.) Others come from within.

I'm just happy to have had a chance to be here.

The incredible joy of being alive, the connection with animals,
nature, art, music, dance, literature, love, humor, travel,
the absence of thinking that life has to have a purpose. It's
it's own reward.

Human beings (most of them) are compelled in some way or other with or without religion.
I live a happy, fulfilling life without religion. I have ambitions and I want to do good in the world.
We don't need a Big Boss upstairs telling us what we're here for in order to have meaning in our lives.

Without religion life would be nothin more than an effort to keep food in the belly and procreate. There would be no art, no music, no social development, no civilization. Just a bunch of people eating a boinking there live away. HRmmm...now that i think of it that way....
