If Wal-Mart is an "All-American Company," then America is in serious trouble. They are the worst example of greed and exploitation. They pay their workers next to nothing, they provide almost no health benefits, and undercut prices so much they drive local competition out of business. I had a friend who went to work there: During orientation, the anti-union video she was required to watch was longer than the worker-safety video. She was told she would be working 26 hours a week, to be scheduled at their convenience.
There was a time, not too many years ago, when Wal-Mart would take out life insurance policies on their employees, without the employees' knowledge, naming themselves as beneficiaries. Fortunately, they were found out and threatened with legal action (it's illegal to do that in any case).
I try not to shop at Wal-Mart. I shop online or at the other stores in the area. I don't agree with their right-wing politics, and they knuckle-under to religious fanatics way too often to suit me.

No, there is no heart and soul to Wal-mart. They're in business
for the same reason that any one goes into business.
They're self-interested, and want to make money.
If they are "bleeding" money, that is their error, not mine.
I shop where I want. I shop at K-mart, as well as the grocery
store I work in, and dollar store.
Whether wal-mart has a heart is not my business.
If you own property of any kind, or have something to sell,
it is unfair of any one else to decide who you can sell to,
or how much of a heart you have.
Wal-mart isn't omnipotent. They can't wipe out innovation.
They're going to have competition no matter what.
Monopolies are punished by consumers.
Consumers are able in 2007 to govern their consumption.

Hey, don't blame Walmart. Americans vote with their wallet. Walmart is simply supplying what Americans want. Sure, they could source all of their products in the US. But would the customers buy it? Obviously,no. How many people look for the Union label when shopping for clothing? How many buy foreign cars? How many would electively pay 30-70% more for commodity items?
Walmart is simply responding to the needs and desires of the American consumer. If there is any blame to be handed out, it should be given to people like me, the guy down the street, and yes, you too.
We buy Chinese products because we believe we are getting a proper value in return for the money we pay. Simple as that.
Nobody is holding a gun to the head of Walmart customers. They shop there because they believe that they are getting the best value.
People are very eager to vilify Walmart. I suspect many of them shop there. Or work there. We have options. Don't shop there. Don't work there.
I personaly don't shop there. But that's my choice.
Walmart simply fills a need that people have. Or why else would they shop there?

Walmart went through a period of promoting themselves as the 'all-American company', then they ditched that when they started sourcing most of their stuff from China. However, people still remember the slogans.
So basically, the leopard changed its spots.
Personally, I don't mind the fact that the stuff is made in China as much as I dislike the way they come up with bullsh$t slogans and try to pull a fast one over the trailer trash who shop there. (Yes, I know we've all been there, trailer trash or not)

Walmart has been selling stuff from overseas for many many YEARS. I know at least for 20 years, I worked at the corp headquaters then and there was stuff coming in from all over the world. Their bottom line is dollars in their pockets, there is no give back to employees or the country that allowed them to take over.

Wal-Mart is EVIL.
The treat their staff badly and they patronize slave labour overseas.
It's a prime example of corporate greed squashing small business owners and it's legal.
