As for myself, I'm not a big horror fan. So I'm sure I've missed a lot of stuff from the "torture flicks" like Saw and Hostrel.

My most unwatchable scene is from Marathon Man, when the ex-nazi doctor played by Lawarance Olivier was drilling Dustin Hoffman's teeth without any novacain to get some information. I must give Hoffman credit in that scene, he truly made you believe the pain he was suffering.

I saw the scene once, never again. I'm glad Hoffman killed the doctor at the end of the film, but he did not suffer enough for what he did to him.

There are a lot of scenes in Schindler's List and The Pianist which are incredibly hard to watch. The one that comes to mind in the pianist is when the man in the wheelchair gets thrown off the balcony. That one really got to me.

I know that the scene in Saw 3 where the guy takes the toilet tank lid and starts hitting his foot/ankle had me squeaming.

But here's an odd answer for you. There was a movie about 10 years ago called "Eye for an Eye" with Keifer Sutherland and Sally Field. At the beginning of the movie, Sally's on the phone with her daughter when Keifer comes in and starts attacking her. I was very disturbed after this scene, just thinking that this mother is listening to her daughter get brutally murdered. Haunting.

After reading another post about Kathy Bates (which was funny), maybe I'll choose the 'hobbling' scene from Misery.

the same you said...it is not only that you cannot look a t the screen but you cannot stop from saying "AHHHHHH!" even if you are not looking at the screen. It is like chalk on board.
There is another scene, well you can say the whole movie that is impossible to watch, it is called Cannibal Holocaust (with that title imagine the worst and you will have it), the film is about a cinema crew that gets lost in an island and they are tortured and eaten by a cannibal trib...There is a scene when two women are impalled, and i cannot remember anything nastier on film

There are a lot to chose from...
The hobbling scene in misery is pretty bad but I can stand it. The part, in Saw 2, where the girl gets thrown into the pit of needles is pretty bad.
I'd have to say that one of the the hardest scene for me to watch is in Dances With Wolves, when the soldiers capture Kevin Costner and they shoot the wolf. I hate that part.

One that is not grotesque by today's standards, but I always turned away from was the scene in Robocop when the criminals attack officer Murphy, thus turning him into a Robocop candidate. Especially the shooting of his hand....yuck! It was just the thought of having 15 people torture one.

Now I know Kathy Bates is a terrific actress and co-stars in the terrific movie "About Schmidt," but that nude hot tub scene is a little much. But I do commend her courage.

The entire Pearl Harbor movie was unbearable. How dare they insult the attack on Pearl Harbor by turning it into a love story with Ben Affleck.
