wait a minute here, are you saying that religion has caused more wars and killed more people, what about refrigeration, and evolution, and the wheel, how many people have died for or anything revolving around the wheel, did people suffer for the wheel, what about it folks, is religion really to blame, or is it our greed, which we seem to want to deny, and religion is a good excuse isn't it
As to the most benificial thing, "the idea of Predestination" i know this, it was certainly the car stereo, and those speakers, to date i do not really know, cannot really say, but i think the best is yet to be, The Pyrimids have been a great topic of conversation, and vacinations against dieases,

Our mind and the use of tools. Every human construction is built with the use of tools. We were able to dominate in the animal kingdom, because we used tools. We could protect ourselves with tools, built inventions such as the wheel, construct shelters, make clothes, hunt...

Learning how to work together towards one goal. That, or common language. You can invent all the wheels you want, but people will just look at you like youre stupid unless you can say, 'Check it out, now we dont have to lug all this **** around anymore!'
