Your lips are the most sensative part of your skin on your face. You should use Chapstick all the time, especially before you go to sleep at night, it will help smooth out chapped lips in a couple days. There is this other one called CARMEX (says it's for cold sores) small yellow colored cap looking thing. You can get that from Walgreens, Target, Walmart, Longs Drugs. You don't have to have a cold sore to use it, but it's the best kind for chapped lips. Here's the website for it, will give you all the information you need:

Look for lip balm made from natural ingredients and look on the label for "Petroleum Free".
On a molecular level the petroleum products, i.e. Vaseline, Carmex and Chapstick, eventually suffocate the skin cells, leaving your skin or lips more dry than before. The sufferer will slather on more and more of the product to try to alleviate the problem, but it never really goes away.
These ingredients are horrible for your skin. Unfortunately it has taken decades for people to wake up and start to realize this. Most beauty products created for mass consumption will have petroleum byproducts in them because they are cheap.
I was at Target last week and I was looking for a lip balm for my daughter. Out of about forty available there, I found only ONE that did not have any petroleum products in it. It was listed as "Natural". A good place to find the petroleum free products is a health food store or a place like Whole Foods.
Good luck!

Vaseline is VERY BAD for chapped lips. Vaseline contains petrolatum, which is a drying agent. You want a product that has mineral oils such as Carmex or Burt's Bee's products, Blistex or Chapstik. NO VASELINE!!! Personally .. I like Carmex ... it has wonderful healing properties.

Do you lick your lips all the time? Stop doing that and the chapped lips will end.
