during africa's colonial period which european power controlled most of eastern africa from egypt to what is now the republic of south africa

First, it wasn't Africa's colonial period, Africa didn't colonize anyone. It was a time of European Imperialism. And Egypt was colonized by Great Britain, as was South Africa.

im pretty sure its portugal for south africa but i cant really say about eastern africa in general. srry.
