don't ignore them. they will not vanish unless you work to make them gone.
when you start to think a negative thought, try to reframe it in a positive manner. ie: start to think 'if i eat that it will make me fat' can be reframed to be 'if i eat only 1/2 of that i will lose weight' or 'if i eat that it will help me have the energy to get through another day'
be reasonable and replace the thought w/a similar positvie thought that is not out of this world.
music works well for some. when a negative thought begins, think of a favored lyric/song.
exercise works well for some. it does produce a physical 'high' as well that is quite pleasureable for a bit of time. try to take a brisk walk, lift weights, etc.
when you find yourself thinking positive thoughts, give yourself a pat on the back.
when you find yourself thinking negative thoughts, do not criticize/punish yourself, just change the thought and move on.
the more you think something, the more likely you are to think it again, positive or negative.

Make a lest of 10 things you are grateful for. Stick it in your pocket. When negative thoughts come to mind, refer to them. If the thoughts come to you because of the actions of another, think of ways you can be a better example. Treat them the way you would like them to treat you. If that doesn't work, spend your time on feel good projects. Some of the most profound are directed to those less fortunate then you. Respect your self and others will fallow. You have the power to choose your reactions. Unleash the power or positive thinking, It's much stronger then the negative!

It seems that you may have a self esteem problem. Maybe you should see a therapist. There is no shame in asking for help when we feel negative about ourselves and cannot keep the harmful thoughts out of our mind. It could very well be a chemical imbalance. Good Luck to you and God Bless

Don't ignore them. They are like little kids...If you ignore them, they'll only yell louder.
Try to figure out why you are having the negative thoughts. Once you figure out the problem, you can the take measures to fix it.

Sometimes reading a book can take your mind completely off of your thoughts. But another thing you can do is go do something good for someone, help somebody who really needs it you'll feel so much better that's all you'll think about.

You really can't, since everything you do has a positive and negative effect. For example, this answer may be voted down by people who want to kill me while it helps you.
