I am going to be keeping it around the house and not taking it anywhere, the thing is the 14.1 " I am looking at has a core duo processor. and the one does not. also the 15.4" does not have but 500 something of memory and the 14.1" has 1000. So I am trying to decide which is more important , I am not going to be using it other than surfing net, saving pictures and music and word processor. Thanks for your help.

I would say, go for the laptop with the decent specs, that would be Vista ready. Regardless of the size of the monitor i would suggest you go for the one with Core duo processor and higher RAM.

Seems like you prefer the 15.4". Go for it! but wait for the specs you need.

If both had the same specs aside from the screen, the answer would depend on what you intend to do with it. Since you said that you don't see yourself moving it around all the time, the one with the bigger screen would be the better choice. It's heavier and less portable, but if you're not going to lug it around, you'll appreciate the bigger screen.

Now, since they have different specs, it gets more complicated. 512MB of ram really is just barely enough these days. If you intend to upgrade to Vista, it won't be enough at all. 1024MB (1GB) is about the minimum you should get with a new computer.

And if the smaller one has a Core Duo processor and the larger one doesn't, this give an even further advantage to the smaller one. Dual core processors are the here and now, and even if you only surf the internet and stuff like that, you'll notice that your system is much more responsive. (at least that's what they say- I've never actually used a computer with dual core processor)

So I would either get the 14 inch one, or go back to researching. It shouldn't be too hard to find a larger-screened one with similar specs for a similar amount of money.

The 15.4 screen is a good size. your info is not really complete, as you have not mentioned hard drive etc. Ideally you would want at least 512 Mega byte RAM (Random access memory), but 1024MB would be better. The other thing you have to look at is the amount of storage memory. This is usually a hard disc drive (HDD) where you would be storing your pictures, music, films etc etc. You would want about 60 GB (giga bites) to make sure you have enough space to store everything. Compare the two, and probably the 14.1 will be ok if it has all the other things just mentioned. If not, wait till you can get a 15 in with the right features. Remember - the higher the numbers = better! Hope this helps and good luck!

If you are traveling with your notebook alot, or use it as a student...get the 14" its just better...if you are couch surfing get the 15.4" cause the battery-life on most laptops that size is 1 to 2 hours...1000 memory is really 1024mb or 1gb or RAM(random.access.memory) The memory on the computer is what lets you run more than one application at a time...if you have 500 which is really 512mb of RAM you can only run a few at a time...the higher the memory the more applications that can be running...good luck..

The memory is unlikely to be a problem and if the bigger screen has a pentium processor I'd go for it. It's personal. I like a bigger screen when writing but if I were carrying a lot I'd want compact - as you're not I'd say size matters (when it comes to screens).

This question again!! It sounds like a 14.1" will be fine for what you plan to use it for!! If you want an experienced opinion though then I suggest you go to a specialist computer store (not PC World) and seek advice there!!

It doesn't sound like anything that you will be doing would benefit from the faster processor or the increased memory so I would go for the one with the 15 inch screen.

Hi For those uses either one should be fine, but I agree with the answerer that said "bigger is better", everything else being equal.

I just came across a site that sends you a laptop for free! I'm ordering mine right now, it's a Sony VAIO and it looks really hot!

Assuming the price is similar, get the one with more memory. Even if you aren't using it for gaming, it'll be much slicker when you try and run multiple programs.
