Feeling content on most days is happiness. Of course there
are moments of hightened contentment , hysterical laughter,
the first throws of romantic love, a brilliant review of your last
accomplishment in the papers, a surprise party thrown by
all your favorite friends, your marriage ceremony, your first
child, an A on a paper that you struggled with or the first
time your dog actually rolls over on command. Life is like
the big night sky with a few shooting stars. Even in the
poorest countries people find true happiness in each other.

I want to point out a fallacy in your thinking. Happiness isn't something you "obtain". It's something you are. And even then, being happy is a relative term. If you were always happy, how could you ever know if you had no bad moments to compare it to. I think probably the best feeling to strive for, the most level, is contentment. Once you get that, you can (excuse the pun) die happy.

I think happiness comes from:
being content and appreciating what you have,
enjoying the little things in life,
taking the time to live in the moment and
having faith that there is a life after death.
I wish I had this, I wish I was that, I wish I lived there, I wish I could... (fill in the blank)
Be happy with who you are, what you have, where you are and it will be easier to find happiness. :)

True happiness comes from satisfaction from what you've done with your life... living without regrets or ties to the pass.
Everyone has to find their own way of going about getting it, and it isn't out of reach.

It sounds like you are thinking too much, and not feeling enough. Analyzing anything too much will always mess you up.
