I'm having a lot of trouble shifting -- to the point that I have to turn the car on and off three times, the third time with it in first gear, to get it to shift into other gears. I've actually injured my shoulder because I have to push so hard to get the car to go into a gear, and when I try to shift into first at a red light, the car occasionally stalls. I was told that gearlube might help, but then the auto parts store said it was probably in need of a clutch replacement.

How much does that cost?

Your problems don't sound like you have a bad clutch. Sound like your shift linkage is in need of adjustment.

Usually a clutch job is about $700. But get you car to a transmission shop and let them diagnose the problem to get the proper fix. You could throw money at that Saturn all day and still not fix the problem.

The clutch kit (disc, pressure plate and throw out bearing) should run about 100. to 200.
Labor to replace is 6 hours (6 X shop's labor rate)

It seems such as you desire a sparkling Mass air circulate (MAF) sensor or an Oxygen sensor. A much less probable yet possible reason is a slowly failing digital gas pump. you will ought to take your motor vehicle to a save to have a diagnostic software run to be sure which that's.

well if you do it your self might coast you 125 dollar. a clutch kit coast 100 dollars. and turning your fly wheel another 25 dollars. but if you have a shop do it might coast you 700 to 1000.
