i missed the promotion to get mew on 9/30. is there any way to get
mew besides that without cheating?

They'll eventually have another one. There's none that have been announced so far, but keep checking pokemon.com or pe2k.com. Probably there will be one after Diamond/Pearl is released for those who missed the one in september and for DS only owners.
