First off you need only look at the past six years. Have we been attacked by terrorists since 9/11? So yes, Bush is doing his best to keep America safe.
And while no Iraq did not attack the US, they were a haven for terrorists, and not to mention, we invaded Germany in World War Two before we knew about the six million Jews killed in the Holocaust. We knew Saddam Hussein ordered the killing of 148 of the city of Dujail's men. Not to mention the atrocities carried out against the Kurds and anyone else who spoke out against him. We forget that we are the world's only superpower and it is our responsibility to protect nations that can't protect themselves. We did it in World War One, Two, Korea, Vietnam, Kosovo, Gulf War. Why all the flack now? Yes soldiers die, but they chose to become soldiers. The military is volunteer. There is no draft. They became soldiers with the full knowledge that someday they might have to fight and possibly die. While this war has had problems, war has problems. And if we pull out of Iraq now, the country will become more destabilized and the conditions become more deplorable than ever imagined. The Killing Fields of Cambodia under Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge will be small compared to what will occur in Iraq. Thousands are dying now. If we pull out, millions will die on a scale unprecedented since the Holocaust.
If I were President, I would have sent more troops in at the beginning, and would have split the country into military districts and given control of those districts to different generals. I would also have begun training the Iraqi military much quicker, and would have secured Iraq's borders as a top priority.

If I were President?
-Hold a summit with Syria, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait to discuss the Mesopotamian region's stability, and ways they can all coordinate to assure that security.
-Send diplomatic papers to Palestine and to Israel telling them to resolve their issues in a timely fashion, or receive no further aid from the US, and potential freezing of assets for wasting the International Community's time with their childish posturing.
-Announce a plan to the International Community, whereby the US pulls back its forces to their bases of operations, and allows regional organizations the full responsibility of cleaning the mess up, since they feel they are so darned good at it. If they prove incapable, then the US will resume operations and fully disregard further criticism, since nobody wanted to help, in the first place. Provided, of course, that Iraq wanted our return.
-Condem the International Community for criticising others and not having the common decency to help nations like Somalia or Sudan with their disasters. Decades worth of sitting on our butts, watching people die is NOT good diplomacy, nor is it goodwill. The US shares in this blame, just as much as anyone else does. It's time for the world to stop being lazy, and for the world to do something, again. The US should not have to be the only nation the world turns to, when a problem pops up. We got to where we are by hard work, and we, in the US, are sure our neighbors can too.
-Enact a domestic energy policy that espouses the exploration of ethanol and bio-deisel (Not the kind mixed with petro-deisel, either. The real deal.) to help put us back on track, and to make the rest of the world look to other technologies for the betterment of the world as well. Too many people have seen how oil can hurt us. Now let the world's breadbasket help us!

No, he isn't. His policies concerning that region engender hatred towards us, and this in itself makes us unsafe. If we want to improve our national security, we must enact legislation requiring the use of ethanol in all vehicles sold in America, and set about making this a reality. Once we no longer have need for foreign oil, we no longer need to concern ourselves with their affairs.
This would promote a healthier environment, employ our farmers to capacity, relieve us of our dependence on oil, and benefit general Americans in terms of better quality of life, cleaner air, and increased safety. Most Middle Easterners who hate us mainly want us out of the region. I say, give them their wish, and let's let their oil become a non-issue.
