Ok I am getting a new laptop and going to stay in a hotel that has free wireless internet access available. But what else do I need? I haven't bought internet for it or anything and the one that I am on right now is a desktop. Do I need a wi-fi card and buy internet or just a wi- fi card?

Most hotels are wireless, so you'd probably need a wireless device. If they have wired, you'd just need an Ethernet cord. Most laptops come with built in wireless now, but if yours doesn't you can get a USB wireless device for $30 or so. You don't need to buy Internet. That's paid for by the hotel or whoever owns the wireless service you're connecting to.
It's just a mouse click to see available wireless networks, so it should be easy to connect to the hotel or your neighbors, if they aren't password protected.

Just a wi-fi card. Check out the new laptop you buy, though, as many newer models have the wireless card built right in. Enjoy!
