i don't know where u live but a/c covers about 3to5 hundred sq ft per ton .a 1000 sq ft house was built a long ago .so i would say u need a 3 and 1 have ton unit .in Chicago that would cost about three thousand dollars .providing there is not a lotn of duct work!

My home is 1400 sq ft on main floor and we have a 2 ton ductless unit. It works great. We set the temperature and have never had a problem, have had it for 5 summers. It is a LG, it cost us $3600.00, because it is ductless. In your case because you have central heat, it would be less expensive. Have a representive come in and give you a quote. It is hard to guess about how much it would cost, as this depends on where you live. Where I live it would cost you approx $1800.00.

to do a good job use a 3 ton with a 4 ton cooler it might sound like over kill but it will cool you crib fast and it will turn off pretty quick from the thermastat saving you constant running bills. Oh yes the cost would probobley be 2500.00 Lennox and the big brands are good but York is a good brand and a might cheaper good unit.

I'm using 20k BTU.
My window unit is from Sears and it cost me $450.
It is no problem to install it yourself.

For your central unit, I don't know.

Call a AC rep, they should give you a FREE estimate. Even Sears does this. Look in the Yellow Pages.

if your furnace is a forced air with duct work you probably will spend between 1500 and 2000. that is for a two to two and a half ton a/c unit.
