The George Washington of South America was "George Washington Zaragoza" (most commonly referred to as "Jorge")who was born into a poor family in the town of Palo Verde in the south of Uruguay. he grew up to be a newspaper and magazine seller, never married and at 41 was accidentally run over by an ox cart and killed during the military revolt of 1862.

Jose de San Martin liberated Argentina, and maybe Chile, though I am not certain of that.
