I'd consider a rat. Theyre like little rodent dogs themselves. after your rat is tame, As long as your dog is gentle, I bet they'd play together with no problems. I used to have a pet rat that'd chase my cats all over the room. Theyre very smart, clean animals and also very curious. You should read up on them and see if this is maybe a good pet for you. All I know is I've had pet rats for years and I've never regretted it.

as long as you keep the cage up away from the dog....get a hamster or a bird...or a hedgehog then they can keep the dog away on thier own:+)
