I thought tobacco, like the kind you buy in a can to make your own cigarettes.

It depends on where they are filming but mostly they smoke tobacco and act like they aren't high, I've never scene a drug scene in a movie that even comes close to being like they're high except in easyrider where they did all that LSD actually they probably weren't acting

from what I have heard they use comfrey, another natural herb. It looks a lot like weed and smokes the same way.

Don't know. But on LOST when it shows Charlie snorting heroin it's really brown sugar. I'm sure they're just doing something harmless like that.

It is comfrey, a harmless her that is used for impersonanting smokers in comercials, movies, tv shows, etc.
