Hi my names Tamika and my baby also has gerd. You can buy over the counter antacids for babies that temporarily relieve the pain. also try to keep him upright particularly after a feed and you can try jacking hi crib up with a wedge or pillows under the mattress. Also just cuddle him and let him know you are there for him. I know how horrible and distressing it is to see the most precious thing in the world to you in pain and know there's not much you can do. I feel for you. Best of luck to you and bubby! xx

My son also has acid reflux. You didn't say how long your baby has been on the medicine. If it has been more than a week then I'd take him back to the doctor. My son is on .5 ml of zantac 2 times a day and is doing much better.

Good luck.

Talk to his doctor until he refer you to a pediatric gastrointernist; until then try the following:
-hold him upright for 30 minutes after feeding.
-during feedings hold him do not prop bottle and keep his head well above his belly button
-do not rock while feeding
- if using a dry formula mix with distilled water, not nursery water
- look for a CIMI (Certified Infant Message Instructor) in your area
- if his GERD is keeping you from placing him on his stomach for floor time he may be at risk for motor delay, so call your local ECI. Early Childhood Intervention Program
His doctor should be able to help you find these resources
Good Luck

sorry that you are going through this..my daughter is five months old and has been on zantaz, prevacid, and both of them at the same time... nothing is seeming to work for her medicine wise..she is aspirating it into her lungs so she wheezes alot...its almost like bronchitis :( for her pain when it is really bad and she is in tears for about half and hour straight, i give her .8 ml tylenol, when she was three months she was prescribed .4 ml...i would talk to you ped and he can tell you exactly how much you should be giving him...please dont guess on the amount, you dont want to OD the little guy...so as i was saying :) we give her some tylenol, and then give her a really warm bath with candles lit and the lights off..it helps her to relax...the candles dont do much for the pain but it calms her...also, i dont know if you are breastfeeding or not, but if you are, dont eat spicy foods and if your not, i highly recommend using the Enfamily Lipil AR, its made specifically for babies who "spit" up alot....good luck and hope that this helps and he gets to feeling better!!!

i have a brother who has alwayshad gerd. i recommend trying similac alimentum formula, or the isomil if you can afford it. another thing that works is to dilute the bottle. say you are aming a 8oz bottle. instead of 4 scoops of formula use 2. not sure hwo it helps, but it does. but maybe try just eliminating one scoop at a time. this way it's more filling.
these are things that help my little brother. and he has gerd so bad he vomits everything up. but once i started this trick my mom stuck with it for him.

My son also has acid reflux. I am suprised your Dr. put him on Prevacid...my Dr. told me that it has not been approved for babies as young as yours. That is why my son was put on liquid Zantac. It took a few days to really kick in but in the meantime you can use regular Malox. 0.5cc/ml. That should coat his tummy and throat and give him some immediate relief. (I suggest asking your Ped. if this is ok for your son first as I am no Dr.- just telling you what we did per our Dr.) I also kept him upright for 10 min. or so after feedings. If you are giving breast milk (I pump and bottle feed) you can add a little rice cereal to the bottle to slightly thicken it- that helps them keep it down. Enfamil AR does the same thing- it has rice starch in it to make the formula a little thicker to help with reflux. I added 2 tsp of rice cereal to 5 oz of breastmilk and it seemed to help. He is doing great on the Zantac and I no longer have to add cereal to his bottles. I also tried using gripe water- I am undecided on if it really made a difference or not. My son is now 6 months old and is like a completly different kid! So happy! Good luck to you and ask your Dr. about Malox and Zantac!

I know what you mean, my daugher is six weeks old and we are battling reflux as well. Have you tried gripe water? Little Tummies makes a version that is sold at Babies R Us, and it helps alot. I also hold my daugher close, and bounce on my fitness ball- relaxes her every time. I "wear" her in the baby bjorn carrier alot as well. She takes zantac twice a day, and we just had the dose increased because of her weight. Hopefully your little guy will start feeling better in a few days. I have heard really good things about prevacid, but my pedi wants to wait for us to see the GI specialist before switching her meds.

She is the same age as my daughter was, she also lost her milk teeth aged four so your baby is not too young. My daughter was also in extreme pain, the only thing that worked, apart from lots of cuddles, were Ashton and Parsons Homeopathic teething powders. I know it sounds mad, but they really, really work. They are widely available from chemists and Boots and are very safe, they can even be given up to every half hour in extreme cases. They settle the stomach as well, which many babies get problems with when they teethe. You just open the individual packet an pour it into baby's mouth, it works almost immediately and brngs much needed releief. They are totally homeopathic andd not expensive, I even used them when my daughter had teething pain when she was older, and if one of us gets problems with our teeth now, it is our first line of defense. Great stuff.
