Okay, I hear about people being on full bedrest. As odd or stupid as this question seems, does bedrest mean not being able to go to the store or do daily tasks at all? Could it cause other problems in pregnancy? What does bedrest intail exactly? I am 12 weeks and 3 days and so far a normal and healthy pregnancy, but I was wondering if that meant you couldn't get any form of exercise at all. As I said this is a farily odd question but since I have never had to have bedrest of any form I was just curious.

It depends upon how serious your condition is. I know someone that was on bed-rest in the hospital. She was allowed to get up only to use the bathroom, brush her teeth, and take a quick shower. Other women around her weren't even allowed to get up for that, they had to use bed-pans and have sponge baths. Sometimes they send you home for your bed-rest, the Dr. determines how much you can do, it often means you can get up for meals, showering, bathroom, but that's about all. Hopefully you won't have to get put on any kind of bed-rest, the majority of pregnant women don't. The woman I know was on bed-rest for weeks and weeks to try to carry her baby long enough for him to be healthy. She is now having to have physical therapy because her muscles lost their strength since she was pretty much unable to use them. Often women on bed-rest deliver early, the whole point is to get the baby far enough along to survive, but they usually don't let the women carry the baby to full-term because there is a risk of complications with the pro-longed bed-rest. Hope I gave you enough info.

I was placed on bedrest when I was 6 weeks due to some spotting,i stayed on it for 2 weeks then the spotting stopped,I am now 12 weeks and 3 days too =)...and off bedrest completely...
Strict bedrest is when the mother to be cannot move from the bed except to use the restroom and take a shower until doctors orders are said.....Then there is modified bedrest (which i was on) where u have to limit your activities,no sex, nothing going up there at all,no excercise,no cleaning and no work! But u can have very light acvtivity such as making yourself something to eat, moving around for about 2-3 hours out of the day and nothing more until doctors orders,,,,bedrest stinks,,its awful and im so glad im off! Good Luck with your pregnancy!!!

I was on bedrest with my first child from 28 weeks until 31 weeks when he was born. I was allowed to go from the bed to the couch and to the bathroom. I was allowed a quick shower, maybe five minutes. My husband would do the grocery shopping and my mom came over to keep me company and help with the cleaning a little. I'll have to do that again when I get to 24 weeks with this pregnancy (I'm 11 weeks now). Full bedrest is when the mother isn't even allowed to get up to go to the bathroom. It's definately a pain, but so worth it to have a healthy baby.

Thank God I had healthy pregnancies...but a few people in my family had to be on bedrest, and that meant literally staying in bed all day. You are allowed to get up to go to the bathroom but that's pretty much it. Of course the people in my family had some pretty difficult pregnancies. The main reason for bedrest is to prevent the baby from coming too early. If you have really high blood pressure it's to help keep that from getting out of control. In my cousins' cases it was because they kept going into labor about 2 months early. So the point of bedrest is to prevent too much stimulation that could cause you to go into labor. At least that's my understanding of it.

hello i was on bedrest with all three of my children at about 6 months on. the third was strictly bedrest you dont really need bedrest unless your Dr. tells you and bedrest means you can get up to use the restroom and shower and thats basically it lol you can go to the couch and to the fridge basically you need to stay off your feet you need to proubly be laying or reclining as well as boring as it may be its really important alot of people dont take it serious enough but i learned the hard way.with my first pregnancy my placenta ruptured and i lost the baby at 6 1/2 months so if the good old dr says bedrest that means bedrest i would take up knitting and they would give you something to do i made baby blankets for my children one is now 6 and still sleeps with it and the other is 10 months and loves her blanky Good Luck

Full bedrest means not getting up at all...sometimes not even to go to the bathroom, depending on if you're at home or in the hospital. If they tell you to take it easy and put your feet up, then they mean have someone else do your shopping etc. and get up to pee and shower and such but not much more. If (God forbid) you are ever put on bedrest, the doctor will be specific about what you are and aren't to attempt to do...

Onyl people with high risk pregnancies will be told to have fll bed rest which means only get up to go to the toilet etc. If you have a normal pregnancy there is no need for this. I am 8 weeks along and dance full time in a international show touring the world, we have approx 2 shows per day and 6 dances per show the doctor said its better not to drastically change your life when youa re pregnant and to keep going with your daily routines, as drastic changes affect the baby more than anything, and a healthy mum excersizing is better than not

I was on bed rest from 17 weeks on (my water broke and I leaked the whole pregnancy). It all depends but generally you can get very mild exercise. I used to go outside and take a walk around my house...slowly. Nothing strenuous. Usually that is what it is (I did a lot of research on it since I had nothing better to do) but very rare cases women have to stay in bed, sometimes with legs elevated. I did have an emergency C at 31 weeks. Beautiful 3 lb 14 oz. Who is not a rambunctious 4 year old.

When my mother was pregnant with her second baby (which she ended up losing) she was put on complete bedrest and wasn't even allowed to get up to go to the bathroom..so going to the store wasn't even an option. She had to use a bedpan and everything. Depends on what your doctor says. If you're not sure ask them to elaborate.

I was on two weeks bedrest and was not able to do household chores and things (my husband is so great!). I got up to use the bathroom, shower, or get some food. All is well now :)
