A player who has been voted to the Pro Bowl, but either chooses not to play (Fran Tarkenton 1975-1977) or is injured and cannot play (many others) gets credit for a Pro Bowl "selection." When each Pro Bowl game program comes out, it lists all those who who were selected, along with an asterisk for those who did not play.
In other words they get credit for being selected, but if they did not play then they do not get credit for playing in it.
Example:
Fran Tarkenton (9)
Minnesota 1965-66
1975*
1976*
1977*
NY Giants 1968-71
*selected but did not play

no they don't, here are some examples like Brian Urlacher and Mike Brown both made the Pro Bowl team for the NFC last year, they were out due to injury and did not get credit for the probowl. a player has to play in the pro bowl to get credit. besides injured players dont even go since they dont see the point.

Yes. As long as they were physically there and actually played in the Pro bowl, they get credit for what they did there and for being there.

^dude, he means they don't go (like Phillip Rivers or Willie Anderson or Al Wilson)
I would assume so, since they got the recognition of the vote (which, most people don't know is acutally determined 66% by players and coaches --our votes only count for 33% -------so blame players for sending guys who shouldn't be going).
I was wondering the same thing today though ----also whether alternates (not reserves, alternates) who go because of that injury get it (this I would actually think maybe not because they were not voted to originally go, and are just filling a roster spot)

anyone know who's coaching the probowl? God I hope the AFC coach uses 3-4 since nearly all the guys on the D's front 7 are 3-4 guys
