Just after sunset look to the southwest about halfway between the horizon and straight over head. Depending on your location, the moon will set in the west around midnight. The moon is almost totally dark so you may have difficulty seeing it. A pair of binoculars or a telescope may allow you to see a sliver of the moon.

It should be SSW at sunset, moving to set in the west before midnight.
