I was a police officer in a car with 2 other officers. We drove down an old passage under a building. We suddenly saw a figure move quickly across the passage from old lockups. Halfway across it stopped and looked at us and then moved on. I jumped out of the car and ran about 50 yards to where it had been. When I got there it had dissappeared into a solid wall. The air was very cold and I heard someone laugh, a horrible laugh. Both my colleagues had seen it and we were all a bit shaken.
Two nights later I was on foot and a member of the public told me they had seen a man run down the old passage with a large bag and thought it was suspicious. I new I had to walk down there. It was about 1am. I started walking into the passage it was damp and dingy and badly lit with old lamps. As I got further into the passage I suddenly saw a figure standing in the middle looking at me, it was the same figure I had seen two nights before. This time it did not move and I kept walking towards it and shouted to it to stand still. When I was about 25 yards away it gave that horrible laugh, turned and walked into the recess in the wall. When I got there it had dissapeared. It was the same cold air and again I heard that awful laugh but this time right near me. I new someone or something was there but could not see it. I slowly turned around and started walking down the lane expecting any minute to see it again or worse feel it touch me. I knew I had to walk normally and act normal but what I really wanted to do was run.
I was concious that something was walking with me and again turned around but nothing happened, by the time I got to the end of the passage I was sweating but feeling very cold. That was probably the scariest moment I have experienced.

My scariest moment is actually 2 things that are unrelated but are events which reduced me to a blob of quivering flesh.
1 / Picture the scene - a 12 year old boy, left to his own devices by uncaring (or at least unavailable) parents. Out on the streets trying to find something less boring than TV.
Ooh, whats that in the distance? It's a train berthing point for Electric Trains. Interesting place to explore, don't you think?
(bad decision!) In I go and find huge vehicles with the cabs open to look into. There are DC rails carrying current to power the train (I know now because I have become a Traindriver :~} ), above are AC power cables for some of the lineside equipment.
I climb out of a cab and accidentally touch one of the cables with a couple of thousand volts of AC power. Bang! I go flying through the air in electrical shock, and graze past the DC rail and receive a further 750 volts of DC. The thing about AC is, it throws you away, (in the movies its the fat blue spark the forces someone AWAY from the power!). The thing about DC is , you stick! Get a DC shock and its hard to get off till you are cooked.
Because I was flying past I got the shock but it wasn't enough to 'hold' me. The shocks were just enough to break my watch, burn my necklace onto my neck, melt my ring on my little finger as well as stop my heart.
Luckily for me the Security man found me fast and knew CPR, (a rare thing in those days!). That is one experience that left emotional as well as physical scars!
2 / This ones still painful for me.
My wife gave birth to Twin girls in October 1999, they were in Special Care for 6 weeks. We also have 2 older boys (not twins). 7 weeks after their birth, my wife suffered a massive Post-Partum Hemorrhage and began bleeding to death whilst on the toilet (embarrassing for her).
I was at work and she was alone except for 2 babies, a 6 year old and a 9 year old.
She was too weak to call for help but luckily my son realised something was wrong and called an ambulance. He also made her a drink with some biscuits for strength (dont ask but it made sense to him at the time!).
He kept his younger brother calm and cared for the twins (7 weeks old remember!).
My wife was taken to Intensive Care and given 5 Blood Transfusions (THANK YOU ALL WHO DONATE!!!), She had lost so much blood that a vein had to be inflated just to get blood into her.
Without my son, we would now be without a wife or mother.
My son got into the paper for his actions and was the school hero.
My wife and my children are EVERYTHING to me!
I realised then that losing ANY of them, is THE most scariest thing that could happen now.
Sorry this has been such a long answer but scary things should be explained I think.
I get choked up at telling the tale of my wife even now.

I live in Northern Utah where winters can get really bad. Last January I was driving to work the morning after an overnight snowstorm and turned left very slowly. I got through the intersection okay, but as soon as I was through, the car kept turning. I ended up facing oncoming traffic. Luckily, the light their direction was still red and I was able to get turned the correct direction before they started moving.
Still, it scared the tar out of me!

When I was in one of those shopping malls and this lady came up with a survey, my Mom was with me and she was sick, I just didn't know how sick at the time, I explained that to this woman, but she was more interested in making another survey and said my Mom would be ok. Well, I told my Mom I would be right back and went with this witch, she said it would only take a few minutes, but it ended up taking 15 and I was not qualified anyway, so I left and looked for Mom, could not find her anywhere, I was shattered, so I went back to where the surveyers were and yelled at them that my Mom was gone, one said it was not her fault, I then yelled your surveyer told me it would only take me a couple of minutes and then it went into 15 minutes, when I left Mom was nowhere to be found. I told them she was sick, they didn't care, all they wanted was their stupid survey completed. So I threatened to sue if Mom was injured, my Mom meant everything to me, so I looked, alone, and found her around the corner sitting on a bench. Then we left, I had enough of that mall. I took my Mom to that mall the next week don't you know the same woman came up to me and I freaked out on her, I told her to get out of my way, and she did, then I think she realized who I was and never bothered me again. But, now those surveyers come up to me I must have a look because they bypass me, they are the most uncaring ruthless people I have ever dealt with, including the manager, she was cold. I told them all the day Mom disappeared that it could happen to you someday. What goes around comes around. My Mom was so scared, too, and that made me more furious, because I was very protective of my Mom. She passed from Alzheimers and Dementia, which I did not know she had at that time, or none of that would have happened. I thought my Mom wondered off and someone got her. My worst fear, but that would never ever happen again. Not to my Mom.

When I was young, we had a well you had to bleed. We have "well spiders". They are HUGE. I put my hand in to bleed the line and when I pulled it back out, 2 well spiders were on my hand. I screamed like a killer was after me. I never did that job again.
