I posted a question yesterday, and have tried the suggestions but nothing worked. To summarize: I have a 2-3 year old e-machines that worked perfectly fine yesterday before i went to work. I shut it down, and when I got home, it would not start. When I push power, no fans whir, no lights come on, nothing. I opened up the pc. When it is plugged in, I see a green light on the motherboard. I tried switching RAM, and taking out the video card. From what I read it sounded like it was my PSU (power supply unit). I just bought one at Best Buy and just finished installing it. When I push the power button now....it still doesn't work!! I'm going crazy here, I need this PC. What else can it be? Some people suggested the motherboard is a possibility. How can that be? It's not that old, it was working fine until I got home from work, and nothing looks burned or whatever. Plus, when it's plugged in, I still see a green light on the motherboard. Someone please help! What else can I do?

The plug works fine with everything else, and there is no beeping noise. Other than the green light on the motherboard, literally nothing happens; no sound and no movement. If it's the motherboard (I'm going to finally just give up and take it to a pc repair shop) isn't it just worth it to buy a new pc? Although I'd be sort of pissed, it's not an old system.

I know now it's not the hard drive either I just tried it on this PC and it worked. Does that only leave the CPU and motherboard?

This news will be disappointing to you. Whatever took out your power supply, took out your motherboard as well. It was probably a power fluctuation or shock. Yes this happens even when it is turned off. Next time you get a computer, invest in a UPS uninteruppable power supply unit with surge suppression. Always unplug when thunder storms are in the area. This is an expensive lesson...learned it myself the same way you just did. Now my files are all on removable media and backed up.
This can happen to brand new computers too.

One last swing for the fence.
Verify that the power plug and cord are good. Plug some working device into the outlet, your monitor would work well for this test. Then try another power cord to the computer, the one plugged into the monitor would be a good choice.
Your PSU fan is a very good indicator of having found the problem, or at least it's what I've used for this type of problem.
Clear the CMOS. This is done by moving a jumper on the motherboard from one pair of pins to another pair. You'll need your manual to determine where this jumper is on your motherboard. It normally will be near the CMOS battery. Move the jumper to the CMOS Clear position and wait about a minute, then put it back in the Normal position.
Check the wiring from the Computer power switch to the Motherboard. Use your manual to find out which one. Make sure that it is connected.
Test the power switch using an ohm meter to determine if the switch has gone bad. You should read a short (0 ohms) when the power switch is ON. BE Sure to Plug It Back In Before Continuing.
Remove all cards plugged into the computer, memory, the hard drive, CD, floppy, etc (Both Interface Cables and Power), Keyboard, mouse, printers, etc. DO NOT Disconnect the little jumper wires to the power switch and front panel lights. During this process of dismantling your computer you should frequently check for signs of life, i.e. PSU fan, CPU fan, Front Panel Lights
If you have completed this journey and seen no signs of life. It's time to jack that baby and drive a new one under it.
Good Luck
OBTW take the PSU you just bought back to the store for a refund. They don't make very good paper weights.

Depending on how hot your house got it may have overheated but you did turn off your computer. It could also be the hard drive. The hard drive needle could have touched the disc and could have caused it to crash even though you said it still works. Thought the Green light on your motherboard is on that at one point means nothing but your computer is ready to go. Try buying a partly installed box at an electronic store and the insert all your chips. Processor, Memory Hard Drive, A drive D drive and all the other stuff. If you really don't know your computer that well i would suggest not to buy a partly installed box. If you have all your files backed up on a CD maybe buy a new Box with the upgrade WINDOWS VISTA and then upload all your files from that CD and everything will be back to normal if it is a full backup CD. The only difference you will have is the new vista on it. Even though your box is 2-3 years old maybe it gave up on you. I would honestly give it up and go get a cheap 800 to 1200 doll er laptop.

It's surely the motherboard, the green light doesn't mean that the motherboard is fully functional, green light shows that power is reaching the motherboard.
.
To proove its the motherboard, take off all the memory ( normally you should hear a long beep when memory isn't installed) if you get the beeps your motherboard is fine, then it could be your vga card or monitor at fault.
Do you have a UPS? if you don't, thats how you lost your motherboard.

I have the same problem with a older model gateway computer. I have no answer but on mine i'll turn it on and wait awhile then just turn it off, after i have done this anywhere from once or twice to a dozen times over days and days it comes on and works fine as long as I leave it on.. If I turn it off the problem occurs and it might take a dozen more tries over weeks to get it to come on again. It's a spare so no big deal but does have a lot of items on it that I like to access every once in awhile mostly music files from back when napster was legal. Sorry I know this doesn't help.

As you know the CPU can work with Motherboard, processor, Harddisk, Video Card, Sound Card, Memory, Fan and system.
If you already change the power supply that still not on. You need to test 1 by 1. for sure it is not Video Card/Sound Card/Memory.
You need to test your motherboard/Processor/Harddisk. But you need other working computer so you will know which one is not working.
Either one of that already not function.

One thing you can do is to locate the cable going from the power button on the case to the motherboard and make sure its firmly attatched. If that still doesn't work, you may have to reset the jumper on the motherboard(simply locate it and switch which pins it is on and then switch it back to where it originally was). This will reset all your bios setting though. Hope this helps.

ok, 1st your mother board might not be ablt to suport the power supply, so it wont turn on( does it make a beeping noise or somthing) if ti does its probably that, or a card might not be installed right, but to check the type of power supply , try checking the manual it came with it. If thats not the case, check your plug with somthing else like a tv or radio or vacuum please contact me back if u need more info, and about that beeping thing

IDM, internet acquire supervisor has a loose 30 day trial, and it allow you to resume downloads as long because of the fact the positioning supplies it. in case you're utilising a torrent, like Bitorrent or uTorrent, that's going to resume later. in case you're only downloading it from an internet site then probable no longer without IDM or something comparable.
