whats wrong with it?

If it is not spinning out (that is, you cannot get rid of the water, then: Tip the machine up and look under. You will see a rubber pipe about a couple inches around, with a cap held in place with a wire clip. Remove the clip and carefully pull the cap off (The water in the machine will pour out, so be prepared to catch it) You may find a sock or some object, like maybe a coin trapped in there. Remove it, replace the cap tightly, and hey! Presto! You have fixed your machine. Stand tall while your spouse and chillblains look on wonderment, and accept the plaudits. Oh! And wait for my invoice!

how should we know?
need a lot more information like the nature of the problem etc.

so much more that needs to be added to this question if you expect a half decent reply.

failing all else contact the manufacyturer of your machine direct for a local service centre. if your appliance is under 12 months old then you should be able to get a warenty repair done for free by the approved service agenb in your area.
if out of warrenty then you will pay parts and labour.

as a guide only the Display failed after three years service on an otherwise good combination microwave i had. it cost me £95 parts and labour to have a guy come out (a 30 mile round trip for him) to replace the damaged CPU of the oven (which included the display panel).
so it realy depends on the level of the problem such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing or cosmetic as to the exact nature of the plan of attack to repair the machine.

good luck. and next time use the more details section to post full details of the nature of the problem you need solving.

(at the time of writing this, the question stands at "how can i fix my washing machine?" with no further details to the nature of the problem)

I found a really good place to start is to read the instructions. No, seriously. In the back of the instruction book is a whole chapter on what to do if the washing machine needs fixing. There is a whole pile of stuff you can do yourself to save the £60 callout fee for the engineer. Read the instructions!!

The first thing to do is decide what is wrong with the machine. Once that is established you need to decide what to do to make it work. If that fails then share your problem with someone who knows what to do and they can share with you what you can do to fix it. An other way would be call for a repairman to come to your house giving them your name, phone number and address. It would be helpful to include when you will be home and available to have them come to your house.

pick up the phone and ask for a washing machine mechanic.

Thanks for the very fine details. With that kind of problem I would recommend replacement. A 20 year old washer dosen't owe you a thing.
