Sometimes it's the lyrics that remind us of a personal experience or dream, heartache or joy. Other times the music itself strikes a chord (sorry about the pun). Sometimes it all works together. Often we don't really know what exactly we like about a song, we just know that we do. Music is one of the most personal and primal influences on us, even when we aren't aware. Movie makers know this, pay attention to the music next time you watch a movie. It adds most of the emotion to the scene yet we usually are not even paying attention to it.
We see in the Bible that even God enjoys music. Scriptures tell us that He enjoys the joyful noise of the psaltery and the harp, the stringed instruments and the horns. King David was famous for his music. Most all of the Psalms are songs David wrote in praise to God. David even hired musicians to play in the temple 24 hours per day. He knew the effects of music.
Bottom line... if you like it crank it up!

Music just amazes me too. How do musicians come up with all those different melodies. There are only so many notes to work with and yet all these different sounds and melodies. It fascinates me too, what makes you love the way certain notes are arranged with one song, compared to the notes of another. How interesting the human mind. I am glad I'm not the only one who thinks this way.

It all depends on the instrumental sounds, the beats, the sound of the voice (each one being unique of course!), and the words sometimes is song writing that we can relate to at a certain point/time in our lives and feel connected with a certain song.

I think the true gift musicians and song writers have is their ability to write music and lyrics that people relate to. I mean, anyone can write lyrics and make them rhyme and make sense and anyone who tries hard enough can bang out a tune on a piano or guitar, but an artist can touch your soul. I have heard instrumental sax solos that have brought tears to my eyes and gave me goosebumps. I have heard lyrics that by themselves are powerful enough, but when the music is added takes you to a place in your mind you have never been to before. To me, it seems that when something happy, or sad, or difficult is happening in my life, a song comes along that relates and helps me put things into perspective. Music, like any other art, is a diversion from the mundane, and when I find something I like, I go back to it over and over.

well this question caught my intrest because i have such a wierd taste in music. im listening to old music right now and i like that because it reminds me of a certain time period in my life.. and its catchy, and it like portrays a certain mood. i think mood and tone and a persons perspective and openness to a song allow them to like it. and alos i think apart of why people like popular music is because they are constantly surrounded by it..at first i hate the song sexy back because it was so overplayed still is. but i went to a sweet sixteen with my friends and it will forever remind me of that night. and now for some odd reason i kindof like it.. and oh my god some music is annoying but you know its catchy when it is stuck in your head forever.

with me it's a variety of things... might be the beat, or the words, the person who's singing it, etc. I like most all types of music so within each different genre there are different things that I like or dislike...
