Wow, to all you young'uns who are calling me STUPID and/or other unpleasant names: You ight want to do a little fact checking before you jump to such conclusions. Kermit the Frog was in fact on Sesame Street for many many years. Just because you saw him on another show doesn't mean that's the only one he was ever on. Idiots.

YES KERMIT WAS ON SESAME STREET.

Kermit the Frog (introduced 1955[1]) is a fictional character, a Muppet and one of puppeteer Jim Henson's most famous and beloved creations. Kermit was performed by Henson until his death in 1990. Since then, he has been performed by puppeteer Steve Whitmire.

An early version of Kermit appeared in 1955, in a 5-minute puppet show for WRC-TV's Sam and Friends. The prototype Kermit was created from a green ladies' coat that Henson's mother had thrown in the trash can, and two ping-pong balls for eyes. The early Kermit was a sort of lizard-like creature; Kermit's first appearance as a frog was in the television special Hey Cinderella in 1969, and he's been a frog ever since.

Kermit had his big break later in 1969, with frequent appearances on Sesame Street, often as a news reporter interviewing nursery rhyme characters. One of his most memorable works was the song "Bein' Green" from this series. Although closely identified with the show Sesame Street, Kermit featured less as a member of the show's regular Muppet contingent, and more of as a recurring "guest star." Kermit's song "The Rainbow Connection" was also a big hit from The Muppet Movie and, for some time, had become something of a signature song for The Jim Henson Company (it is also the only movie song sung by a "frog" to be nominated for an Academy Award).

In 1979, Kermit and creator Henson spoke at ventriloquist Edgar Bergen's funeral. Kermit published One Frog Can Make A Difference, Kermit's Guide to Life in 1993 in hardcover with Pocket Books. In 1996, he gave a commencement speech at Southampton College in which he emphasized his environmentalist side. In 2001 he appeared in the TV show Hollywood Squares.

Kermit also served as the mascot for The Jim Henson Company, until the sale of the Muppet characters to The Walt Disney Company.

In 2001, Kermit was taken off from Sesame Street after German media company EM.TV & Merchandising AG bought the Jim Henson Company, which held the rights to the Muppet characters, including Kermit.

Also, as someone posted below, Kermit the Frog indeed WAS a character on Sesame Street, making his debut on that show in 1969. However, Kermit made his 1st television appearance in 1955, in a 5-minute puppet show for WRC-TV's Sam and Friends.

The creator of Kermit the Frog, Jim Henson, died several years ago. His son then became the voice of Kermit.
I think that the skits with Kermit on Sesame Street are voiced by Jim Henson and therefore are older clips.
Also, it seems that Sesame Street is trying to keep modern by adding new characters to their repertoire.

Sesame Workshop lost the rights to the Henson Muppet Characters, when the Jim Henson company was bought by Disney. They took all of the characters not associated with Sesame Street

I remember him on Sesame Street, he often wore a trenchcoat and carried a big microphone and did reports from the "Frog on the street". I'm sure that lawyers are responsible for his absence, don't they seem to ruin the fun for everyone?

I don't know but if yu're looking for it for your son, you should try the "Baby Einstein" series instead. They are very good...my 2 year old loves them, and the best thing is that after a while you begin to enjoy the classical musical background music...
