Macs are better for most purposes. There are a lot of little things in Mac OS X that make life easier, leaving more time for learning. There's also something about the clean, beautiful interface that's rather calming. Then again, maybe it's just me. Blue is my favorite color, after all. Like countless others have mentioned, Mac OS X is free of viruses and other kinds of malware. Crashes are almost unheard of, so you won't have to worry about losing your work. It's quite easy to find things with Spotlight, in the event that you forget where you've put a file. It also makes it easy to find applications to launch, if you're in a hurry. There's also the built in dictionary/thesaurus and system-wide spell checking, on the fly. Even as I type this answer in Safari, it checks my spelling continuously. So, there's a few good reason for you to chew on. There's plenty more where that came from. Good luck, hope to see you on the Mac side of the aisle.

I can't think of any reason to spend time monkeying around with Windows XP when you could better spend that time using a Mac. The Windows problems are well illustrated by others, but with a Mac, the spam, virus, and malware problems are nearly zero. The Windows machines are like a magnet. You will spend lots of hours trying to keep Windows running that you could be using to study.

If you don´t know so good any OS System, you can try with Mac OS, all files that you can need for to study can be shared on two platforms, becouse all software, now is made it for Mac and Win at the same time, and the price is the same, so if you know Windows, you can learn so fast, how to use one Macintosh. if you can spedn any money, try some Imac, a tiny computer, but you can plug any screen or mouse and keyboards no matter if is to PC, and the machine run INCREDIBLE.
