I quite fancy one, largely because the sports sims look fun. Are they? And is the motion sensor accurate?

Yes, I got one in December.
Sports games are very fun. I suggest them to you, specially if you want a multiplayer option.
At a party, it will be a huge success.
Now the Wii Montion Controller is VERY accurate. More than I though it could possibly be before trying it.
And new games like Elebits, Wario Wave, and the "soon to be release" Cooking Mama take it to another level. Forget that Wii Sports demostration you saw on TV where a guy is using the Wii Remote as a Tennis racket.
This is the real thing and developers are starting to realize the real potential of the Wii Remote. On the Nintendo CEO own words: "Is not what you play. Is how you are playing it."
Just to give you an example, try this searches in YouTube and watch for people playing:
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
Excite Truck.
Wario Wave.
Elebits.
Trauma Center: Second Opinion.
The Wii remote sensor is accurate enough to turn your control into a sword, a steering wheel, a gravity gun, a medical cirugical knife, and.....well...better check Wario Wave by yourself.

The sports wii game that comes with the system is incredible i am 22 years old and my friends and I were like little kids again playing it and yes the motion sensor is very accurate....as far as the other games that are not very good the only game thats any fun is the sports game

Yes I have a Wii.
If i had bought the PS3 or the Xbox 360 me and my 3 boys would be the only ones to ever play it. I bought the Wii because i hoped my wife would want to play with us. She isn't a vidiot like the rest of us. She loves the Wii and we all play together on a regular basis.

sports are fun, repetitive with computer (im talking about wii sports)
motion sensor only senses speed AND timing
