I've never heard of people seeking counciling or treatment for calling someone a gay slur. Can someone clue me in on how someone can get treatment for saying something or what the treatment is?

Seems strange to me....

I'm really not happy that Yahoo is censoring the questions. I used the word that rhymes with "maggot" that was used in the news story but would not be allowed to be used in my question. This word is certainly not on the same level as the "N" word and I don't know why people are trying to equate the two.

I care because it's the watering down of what truly is real problems in this country. This is not a news story. This is the reason I put the question on the board, idiot first answer guy.

Thanks for all of the answers including the first one. I asked the question because I thought that if the news story had the word "******" in it, then I should be able to post the same word in a question. I guess I seem to find that the media can use sensational words but refuse the general public to use the same word. Thanks all!

It sounds like the typical Hollywood spin. I guess the treatment is learning to keep your mouth shut when you're a celebrity.

Does anyone here remember the First Amendment? While unpleasant, as far as I know there are no outlawed words in the English language, including the examples given above. While I don't use these words, and find them distasteful when used by others, I consider the source and move on. I don't go PC on them, call the cops, demand the seek anger management, etc. This move by the actor is spin control and nothing more.

Living in this country is getting more and more frustrating. It is like living with four year olds....He called me a name, he must be angry, send him to anger management. We seem to be reverting back to when behavior that wasn't "normal" was treated with a lobotomy or electric shock. Now if we hurt someone's feelings we have anger management classes.

Has anyone out there thought that all these PC problems are being manufactured by the anger management therapists to stay employed?

PS. I am not, nor have I ever been, in anger management.

any time you call someone a "slur",,, whether it rhymes with "maggot" or is the "N" word.. .it is a deragatory reference to someone who is different than you are.. and is meant to be a "put down" indicating that they are not "equal"..... a _____ slur is that... a negative remark.

so.. in a sense the two words are equal.... that is the one thing that makes trying to live in a society where being "politically correct." so challenging...

There have been many other words or phrases.. that though now may not be seen as being deragatory and demeaning, for instance... the following statements..

"What!!!!!? are you trying to jew me?"..

seems there was a time when it was against the rules for many Religions to be money handlers,, and more specifically "charge interest." when making finacial transactions.... Jewish people did not have this rule,, and therefore became the bankers.

"And don't even try to gyp me....!"

seems the gypsies were perceived to swindle people out of their goods., play a trick of bait and switch or something....

Those two words were of a derogatory and demeaning nature.

True the African American population of the United States have had to endure racism more blatently with the southern segregation issues,, etc....There were even laws against inter racial marrages. Plus many more limiting what "blacks" were allowed to do. Makes sense that the timing was right in the 1960's for Martin Luther King Jr.. to make his "I have a dream" speech. And there continues to be anti black sentiment...

Being "gay" in the US is still one of the last minorities to be in many places ok to descriminate against them.....
Gays too have been pursicuted through out history... In fact the origins of the word "******" was... during the Witch burnings ... fires were started with a bundle of wood called a "******", Homosexual males would be bound together and set on fire... as to help fuel the fire.. ....these too were called , "******"

There was a young man by the name of Matthew Shepard who was tortured and killed and left tied to the barbed wire fence all because he was gay. I am sure the word "******" was used during this torture and killing...

So really anytime one calls another a name ie "f" or "n"... that word in itself.. is a warning that the name caller has some issues,, repressed or otherwise that are needing to be addressed..... and going to a "therapist" is a good place to start......

Name calling is mean,, name calling hurts everyone.

The other thing I think is that the media likes to get involved and cause problems.... No longer is it desireable to report the news.. and the facts.. etc... they strive to make everything a major issue..and sensationalize everything as well....

Many Americans love the "dirt".... if this wasn't true,,, Jerry Springer,, Dr Phil,, and even Oprah.. would be in the soup line....

Being :"gay sensitive:" is the new buzz topic of the 21st Century...
Is still the one thing, short of :W: and Iraq... that get's many all worked up........ and opions and words.. start flying.......
,,, everybody duck... it is going to hit the fan... lol

Yes there is supposed to be "freedom of speech"... but even as a "kid" one was punished.. sent to the princiapal's office, or detention.. for name calling....

I believe the "Free speech" was written to allow citizens to express their concerns and speak out against injustices... Don't forget that our founding father's left Europe for a better place.. as speaking against/out,,, etc.. one would find oneself imprisioned.. and more often one's head would be lost to the executioner at the chopping block.

"Free speech." does NOT give one the right to be mean... less we forget the law suits won over slander and defemation of character statements...
Harrassing and name calling are nolonger acceptable... after presenting at a recent middle school career day.. I was pleased to see that there were posting on many hallway walls .. that "bullying" .... is not acceptable,, nor is it tolerated.... and name calling is associated with bullying.....

again,, words hurt... words have been used to cause severe emotional damage......

How about everyone be nice... or you can take your toys and go home... lol

Even Thumper's mother said,, "If you can't say anything nice,, they don't say anything at all.":

I wonder what the world would really be like if people truely tried to live those words....

Think about it.....

Free speech and all......

Both words are on the same level. When they intend to inflict harm and you are a nationally known personality, most often you are fired...as he should be since he apparently enjoys aiming his views at one particular person. Twice in one month in public makes it a directed, hateful statement. Sports announcers and news reporters have been fired for the "N" word when it "slipped" from their lips. This guy goes out of his way to be stupid. He deserves to be fired then sent to rehab. Serious repercussions are the only thing that'll get this arrogant guys attention. Then he'll be open to rehab suggestions and behavior modifications. He's a bully.

ABC isn't happy that he brought bad press to a top rated show! I got a feeling he'll be on recurring status next season-or slowly fired. It's sad people resort to name calling & stupidity. No treatment can cure that at all.

Maybe he is going in for an anger management session to prevent himself for future outbursts, because his image is important now that he has hit mainstream.
The most important thing is - Why do you really care?
