A lot of people say they fall out of love, but it really has to do with personal neediness, addictive personalities or even passive aggressive behavior.
Love is a combination of thoughts, behaviors, and hormones.
First, the hormones run down. The body cant’ keep pumping out heightened levels of hormones forever. Then our behavior changes; we take one another for granted or life gets in the way of romance and we get busy running a household instead of nurturing a relationship. Finally, our thinking changes. We put the worst possible spin on what our spouse just said or did. We blame him/her for things not working out. Eventually, we convince ourselves we never really loved her/him in the first place.

Falling out of love marks the end of the infatuation stage. You then have an opportunity to choose to love the person. Or you may choose to end the relationship.

If you are in a commited relationship such as a marriage you may have a lot invested in the relationship and may be more motivated to choose to love.

Scott Peck discusses this in his book The Road Less Traveled. Scott suggests that 'falling in love' is a biological trick that brings people together. It doesn't last. But choosing to love someone can be much more fulfilling.

Good Luck.

Hmmmm........how can anyone fall out of love?........marriage did the trick for me, but only because I married the wrong person. When you fall out of love with an individual, you no longer have a desire to be with them and the fiery passion of love-making turns to cold ash. To borrow loosely from a couple of old cliches, in that case, distance does NOT make the heart grow fonder and familiarity does indeed cause contempt.

I don't think you truly ever fall out of love. You replace the feeling with something else, normally hate but thats cause you really still love them.

Yes, this is usually what one person tell his/her significant other when there is another person that they've become involved with but they are too chicken to admit.
Inevitably the ensuing break-up reveals the truth about the secret lover and everybody ends up hating each other for years. Some will carry this to the grave with them.
Sad, huh?
