Seems to me that we've associated the word "Addiction" to the traditional word "Sin" --->

Sin has always been the downfall of humanity; Sin prohibits humanities quest of surpassing animal tendencies to achieve divinity.

Logically “Addiction” allows for us to have hope for the person with the addiction. Historically, “Sin” is associated with “Capital Punishment”. In past centuries, “Capital Punishment” was abused and too often a select few acted like God: Judge, Jury, Executor, and defender for all. This lead to hypocritical acts - and now, we’re afraid of “Sin”.

However, the true problem with using a less powerful word is getting less effective behavior modifications. Psychologists look at addictions like “Pedophilia” and the psychologist will justify the behavior in hopes to cure the patient. So, society isn’t finding ways of curing (punishing) the person with sickness, but instead, becoming “Buddy” and allowing all things to happen. We’re seeing parents spoil their kids … and we’re seeing societies turning blind eyes at social crimes like genocide.

I agree with you--but know that gambling, sex, booze and tobacco (at least) were around and used well before the 20th century. Additionally, the meds used back then contained addictive substances from plants--there are several of those that are still around.

YES! Beyond a shadow of a doubt! Drugs are the root cause of just about every crime except rape and treason.
