G.A. Custer's horse was called Commanche. It was even popularized in the 1950's song by Johnny Horton.

He rode his horse Vic into battle at the Battle of Little Big Horn.
Another horse of Custer's, Dandy, was with the regiment but was with the pack train at the time as he was sick.

forgot name, but the horse is buried in fort hill cemetary in Auburn NY, the only animal that ever recieved a congressional medal of honor
