What are there differences? I'm look ing for buying one of these laptops (not the clamshell versions) and i'm wondering if the G4 is worth $100-200 more.

Big difference. G3s are mostly dumpster material now. They were badly underpowered and unreliable. You have to pay people to haul them away. The G4 is a pretty decent computer. The new Intel Macbooks are a lot better than the G4.

There is a HUGE difference. First of all, the G4 is not even current. This is old stuff. However, most aps still let you run them with a G4. Few aplications, especially intensive aps, will allow you to use a G3. The difference is in processing. A G3 is much slower than a G4. I don't know your financial situation, but I'd say you're far better off getting the G4 for only a couple hundred bucks more. You don't want to be buying really old hardware - because it only gets older.

However, if all you are doing with it is emails and maybe Microsoft Word, then you MIGHT be Ok with a G3, though I don't recommend it.

I'd say the 100-200 bucks is well worth it. But if you can, go ahead a buy a cheap G5. You can also go to any Apple Store for more info.
