If you're very worried, talk to your doctor or gyno but it's very normal for your periods to be irregular after stopping the pill. Your body has been used to synthetic hormones for a long time so it has to get used to the levels being different in your body again.

I also used bcp before I got married. After I had my first child I didn't have a period for about two months, once getting back on the pill. I don't know if it was the pill itself, or my hormones. But after I had my daughter in '05. I got on the patch, and did not have any abnormal periods. It was every 28 days, no matter what. I don't think that it is normal or abnormal, just your body.

Unfortunately, it's not unusual to experience abnormal periods for several cycles after discontinuing bcp. If your cycle hasn't corrected itself after 2 more cycles (I'm assuming your cycles used to be closer to 28 days long instead of 40), then I would talk to a OB-GYN about it.
It's a really frustrating situation when you want to get pregnant. I don't think you are probably pregnant right now. Even if your cycles are all screwed up right now, that doesn't mean that you CAN'T get pregnant - it just won't be as easy. You can still look for the signs of ovulation even if you aren't getting your periods every 28 days. Look for the increased cervical mucus - stretchy, slippery, etc. You should maybe track your temperatures every morning - all this will help you in the long run.
Good luck!

Everyone responds to being on (and off) the pill differently. When you stop taking bcp studies suggest your body can take up to 3 months to return to "normal". Remember too that the pill can cause someone with irregular cycles to become more regular and when you discontinue the pill you can return to the pre-pill cycle length. Hope this helps!

Your body takes time to adjust after using birth control. But if you think there may be a chance you're pregnant, see a gyno. Their tests are better than the home jobs, and I myself got pregnant immediately after stopping the pill...twice.

Yes, the pill throws your period off big time when you stop taking them. It will never be the same again.

menstrual cycles usually take time to get back to normal, about a few months to practically a year... and as long as your getting it and don't have any signs of pain or discomfort, you're a-OK... if in a few months, your cycle gets weird, i would visit my gyn and get a check up... good luck!
