april 16th is national emancipation day and will be considered a government holiday - which to me means that as a taxpreparer the15th falls on sunday which makes the due date for returns on the 16th but if it is a federal holiday then the deadline moves to the 17th!....is this true and where is a link i can see to confirm if it is?

On April 16, 1862, President Abraham Lincoln signed into federal law the "District of Columbia Emancipation Act" ending slavery in DC. This action preceded and served as a template for the Emancipation Proclamation that was signed by President Lincoln almost a year later.

I guess they are extending it to everyone. It's been celebrated for a while. I think it's called Patriot's Day.

Not to criticize you, but why is that exciting?

Yes, it is true by the way.

Although I would seek a second opinion for anything you see or hear on CNN.
