Im not sure if it would be ok since I know that mattresses could come with germs, but maybe it really is not a big deal.

All the crib mattresses I've seen have a vinyl cover, so as long as its not ripped or cracked, I'd get a used one and then have your husband (or you in a very well ventilated area) use a bleach solution to wipe the whole thing down.

Yes. It will be fine. The only thing that you would need to concern yourself about would be some germs which can be easily removed, if they are present, by wiping the mattress with bleach water. Baby mattresses are not cloth so this will clean it just fine. Nothing to worry about. It is recommended that you not use a mattress with holes or tears in the plastic cover but that's it.

For me it is, you see a mattress is not like clothes, that you can wash. Take into consideration all the germs of the other child (you don't know if it was a sick baby) that are going to be touching your child, like the germs of your household are not enough. Yes you can use Lysol but still are 100% sure it going to be ok for YOUR baby? And if you use clorox the smell that leaves, uhh!!
If you're buying it,
buy a new one. They are not expensive.

I wouldn't. A new crib mattress is not that expensive. I would want to protect my baby from any possible germs.

Crib mattresses aren't that expensive. I would not lay my baby on a used mattress.

Depends how used. 5-7 years I hear is the max. Dust mites and all.
