It's a great piece of American literature, and a great story.

My reason probably isn't the best, but I couldn't stand that book when I read it in high school. I was also an English major in college and I generally love literature. I even tried to read it again and disliked it. I know it is on the banned book list for, I think, racial discrimination. However, I couldn't tell you if I think it should be taught or not for a good reason. I wouldn't teach it, because it bores me and, when I was 14, I felt like the characters were very immature. I could figure out the whole plot after the first chapter or so.

Well, I am reading this book right now in English class and it is very good. I think that students should read it because it shows about discrimination. It is very important for students to see how far we have come, but realize that we have not and probably will never overcome it. Students like me are sheltered, this is because my township is a very sheltered place. It shows students that the world is a very hard, cruel place to live. I hope that helped!

Personally it's a great book! I think I was the only one who actually liked it in my class.
Why should students study it? Its a classic. It covers a lot of view points. What i remember from school was that a lot of ppl. had different ideas and views on the book.
The one author I wish we would have read any of her work in high school is Jane Austen.

Wonderful book... plus a great stage play. You could get a copy of the script and act out parts to help enhance the understanding of the work.

it's a great heart felt movie about the age old story of a black man being falsely accused of raping a white woman and of the great white lawyer who defends him. although the lawyer's defense was impecable, the black man was still prosecuted, i think may've even lynched him. in the movie, the lawyer was played by gregory peck and the accused by brock peters.
