He asked his friend to tell me that he wanted to be in a relationship with me, and when I said no, he's been saying that he's spread a rumour at college among all the south asian people (we're south asians as well) that i had an affair with him! What am i supposed to do and who should I tell first?

One crucial thing you left out is who did he tell he was going to spread a rumour? If it was you, simply let your reputation speak for itself. People who know you and know him will know the truth without him having a chance to smear your reputation. If you feel that isn't enough, simply tell a few people who you trust the truth, and tell them if they hear the rumour repeated, to simply tell the person they heard it from the truth from your perspective. Regardless of what he does, it will be short lived, and you'll survive it. All it truly shows is the wise choice you exercised in not becoming involved with him in any way or form. I would also cease all communications with him, and treat him like he fell off the face of the planet. Anything you might say from this point on might encourage him to actually spread the rumour. Just leave him be, and he'll find a new target for his affections/stalking.

The first thing I would do is confront him in person. Be sure to bring a third party along with you, so that 1)you have a witness, and 2)he'll be less likely to pull a nasty stunt. If he continues to act up, you may have to sick someone of authority on him(like the dean or the cops) depending on the degree of his behavior. He's doing it out of revenge for what he perceives as a dislike for him, and is trying to get others going along for the ride to up the ante. In the end, though, others will start to see through his lies and other garbage.

wow thats a situation there, well something similar happened to me so i think you should go up to the guy and sit him down and have a nice talk don't yell at him or anything though cause that will just fuel his anger. Ask him as a friend to tell evryone that its not true if that doesnt work then go to plan B you tell evryone the truth and if that still doesnt work go to plan C kick his *** and cuss him out infront of evryone on campus!

there are two routes you could take, A the nice way or B the mean way. The nice way would be to just say nothing and ignore it. The mean way would be dig up some dirt about him and spread it around. I like route B better but that is just my personal opinion.

I'd go to a college counselor and explain EXACTLY what this man is doing ... it's called 'sexual harassment' and needs to be 'stopped' but you can't do that by yourself. DO NOT TAKE 'don't do anything and it will pass' for an answer, because YOUR REPUTATION is at stake ... and so are the reputations of other 'women' in a similar place.

Someone in student services, a dean or someone else with authority. Not only is that maliscious, but it could be the start of many unwanted attentions, so you want to bring everything that's going on to the attention of someone with authority. And he should probably be told by the person in authority that that's sexual harrasment, and you could sue him, and the college if they fail to act.

Don't worry, rumors are like gum, you take it in, shew it a little, and then spit it out. Just let time take its course, if you try defending your case too much, people will think that your just trying to covering it up, and they wont believe you. If that don't work, just tell them that you found out that he wears granny panys. (it works every time). (a little photoshop will confirm it).

Im not big on revenge (heck I dont even like it) but some people dont know when to quit. Until they had a taste of their own medicine.

Talk to him and tell him needs to stop spreading rumors about you and ruining your rep. If that doesn't work you can sue him for deformation of chacter and emotional stress.

File harassment with the school, he might get expelled-bet he won't do it again. Or get a restraining order-that sort of thing.
Check with local law enforcement, they can help.
