For my ceramics class, our first project is to make a dwelling of some sort. A lot of people are doing things like beehives, and nests, and teepees and the like. I kinda want to do something that isn't a norm for either humans or animals to be living. The thing does't necessarily need to be living...the teacher said we could do garbage cans, lunchboxes or the moon. It just needs to be something where something else resides. She also said that she enjoys projects that make a statement.

Obviously it would be somewhat hard to make a statement out of a dwelling (at least, I think so...what am I supposed to make, a womb?) but I'd like to do something that has some edge. I was considering an alley (to illustrate homelessness, etc.), but I don't know.

Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks so much!

Your idea is very creative. I was looking at your icon, the eye. This is just an ideal in addition to what you’ve provided.

With in the eye (vitreous) is the womb. The womb represents the human brought forth into the world. The sight is on the product of that womb through the lens. Within the opening to the brain (optic nerve), are the life signals of decisions, passing internal and externally placed upon the (Vitreous) holding space of the human of both good and bad which grows from the womb. The sight from the outside is a view of your icon providing what you see on both sides because all the time, it is the homeless that we look at but our brains, well they put another image that provides how we see, what we see and the actions that we take to provide action.

Again, this is just a thought and an extension of what you have already provided to us the audience.

I hope that this helps.
Thank you.

To make a statement often requires more detail in the things around and within the dwelling than the choice of dwelling itself. I recommend, for something 'different' to go either subterranean or submarine. Both are innovative and rarely done and give ample opportunity to incorporate symbolism to get across a statement.

The only subterranean dwellings that are over done are the hobbit home (from Lord of the Rings) and a rabbit hole/warren.

Since you can be creative about it, perhaps a humanoid animal dwelling. For instance, taking a common Meercats tunnel network and putting human civilization things (posters, 'home sweet home', door mats,) into it as if they where living a human life down there.

Hmm, A dwelling may just be where people pause, "dwell" for a while. A "home" may be something very different.

But there's another meaning: to dwell on, which is to think bout, or ponder. And where do thoughts live?

Go on, do a section of a brain, or a human head.
It's where thoughts dwell. You could add some, or not, as you chose: (I, you, war, hate, love: the simple but telling stuff)

How about a head? With or without an interesting hat. A skull if you want to make it scary. Have a look at some Escher pics. Or Dali. Check the web sites or Search the names.

I liked your alley idea. It would make a statement about the rising population of homeless people. You could do a tree or a flower for some animals. You could do a cave, but that doesn't make much of a statement. Good luck.

you should swing through the bakery at WalMart or something and %. up a embellished cake with out words on it, take it homestead, and pipe some icing on properly with your required word. i'm gay. i'm lesbian. ladies rock. i'm immediately -- yet with a line slashed by ability of it and below "gay/lesbian" and so on or you should draw a layout of a few form. Like a no smoking circle/decrease signal over a stick guy or bearded face or something. Or in case you may't do it your self, you'll get the peoples on the baker to do it for you. placed on rainbow colorations and act like each little thing's primary. placed a collection of LGBT flags and stickers and pins on a bag or your blouse or something. Get some printer paper and tape a collection mutually (or a roll of paper) and fingerpaint it with your word of determination and string it up on your bedroom wall. Play loud woman-ability, les-themed music. bypass to the kitche nfor a snack or something and ask them to go back "approve" your new bedroom format. or purely go away it up till they arrive in.

Inside the skeletal structure of a whale. This makes the
obvious statement and you could cover it with mesh or another
type of transparent material and place things inside they make
from the hunting of these fabulous creatures, i. e. perfume,
which uses ambergris from the whale's brain and scrimshaw
which is whale bone carvings. These things can also be
made out of your sculpural materials. Click on a whale
site to see the rib-cage.

An igloo on an artillery shell. Or a brass bed in a bomb blast.
Inside a prison cell...Outside a prison cell.
Inside a fish bowl.
