It is my experience that talent makes the learning process easier. Nobody is born with an innate ability to draw (or act, sing, or write for that matter), though talent expedites learning. The most important trait, however, is persistence. Anybody who is not developmentally disabled can learn anything, if you are willing to invest serious time and effort. I have no talent for drawing, but I have gotten to be pretty good by just working at it for a long time.

I don't think anyone really has the natural talent. People who seem like they have it probably just started at a young age. It really just depends on practice. Draw something everyday. Then if you know people who can draw well, ask them for advice on how to improve. Don't get too caught up in instruction books. Just learn the basics like perspective and proportion. If you must use books, its best to copy and observe the pictures in there. Don't just read them. That won't teach you how to draw. If you want to make sketches from photos, do the old trick of splitting the photo into little squares and copying each square. It will almost always turn out right using that technique. Also, learn to see with an artistic eye. While doing normal stuff like walking down the street, notice the different shapes that make up objects you see. Notice how the people are proportioned.

Well, it is said that some people are born artists, and it's true that it may be easier for some people, but nothing comes without work. You can do it if you love art and are willing to spend time on it. All you have to do is draw everyday- anything you see. You can buy books that explain a bit about drawing, and read them, but most importantly, DON'T give up. Taking me as an example, I used to be terrible at art. But these last three years I've made a difference. I drew and I drew each day. I practiced and I love it, Look at me now; I've made money for portraits! With a little practice and determination, you can too. :) Good luck! PS- You can also take some courses. Or, watch instruction videos on YouTube. I've done that :)

You can learn. It might be a little harder then if you had the natural talent, but you can. I dont have it and I did. You just need to practice every day! Take a class to learn the basics and dont stop sketching! Out of 100 sketches you might only end up with 5 you like and 1 you love, but dont give up, that is just the way it goes.

Try looking into classes at the community college close to you...they usually offer drawing I and II, watercolor, illustration, stuff like that. These will help you to "see" what you are drawing, so you can make good sketches. I took a lot of them when I was looking into design school, and they helped me so much! They even usually offer sculpture, which is a lot of fun!
There are also some good books out there, but I would really recommend taking at least a drawing class first so you have someone there to guide you.

I think anyone can learn to draw. Take a basic art class through a community college near you. Some of the creativeness does come naturally, but I think a lot can be learned.
Good luck!

I am the same way, but the profession i chose required lots of graphic skills. The best way i was taught to draw well is to go sit outside someone and sketch something very freehand. and then take a photo of it and trace the photo freehand, but still have defined lines. then compare the two. It will take lots of practice to get where you want to be but i went from not being able to draw a tree very well to drawing a really detailed tree with leaves with great detail. (landscape architecture major) GOOD LUCK!!
