I want to put on a play with my middle school students, and I'm having trouble finding decent places to buy scripts/licenses.

The licensing companies are:

1. Dramatic Publishing Company
http://www.dramaticpublishing.com

2. Dramatists Play Service
http://www.dramatists.com

3. Musical Theatre International
http://www.mtishows.com/default_HOME.asp

4. Samuel French
http://www.samuelfrench.com

5. Tams-Witmark
http://www.tamswitmark.com

For Children's Theatre (never played on Broadway) check these sites:

1. Frumi Cohen Musicals (www.frumicohen.com) - specializes in family-friendly musicals basedon classic stories and several originals. They sell full production packages (rights, scripts, scores and rehearsal tapes) for about $300 and less.

2. Bruce Goodman's Musicals (plays.freeservers.com/childen/childmus.htm) - offers 35-45 minute musicals for elementary and middle school kids for less than $40 (includes rights, tapes, scores)

3. Hope Publishing (www.hopepublishing.com) - religious and general interest musicals for children.

Also check out these sites: (very useful and informative)

1. Stage Agent (www.stageagent.com) - info on rights availability, shows and resources for performers and producers.

2. New Dramatists Guild (www.newdramatists.org) - links to playwrights interested in showcasing their new works.

Finally, this site is the ultimate resource -
alphabetical list of rights holders to musicals ---(http://www.musicals101.com/alphinde.htm)

Hope this helps

Find a play you want to put on, and then see what company holds the rights to it. Samuel French is mainly for plays, and Musical Theater International (MTI) has the rights for most musicals.

www.mtishows.com is the best one that I can think of. They have the majority of the popular shows (including High Schoo Musical, which seems to be a hit with the middle school crowd right now) with the exception of the Peanuts shows. They have full shows, junior shows, and shows made for younger audiences.

while mti is a great site, they are limited almost entirely to musicals, for straight plays consider Samuel French or Dramatists Play Services
