The one thing which affects modern computers today is the RAM - with the amount of software, updates, files and deleting and creating, there is a real big need for a large amount of RAM on everyones computers.

You may already know that RAM stands for Random Access Memory, if not then now you do. It's job is to store temporary files, animations, graphics, you name it and it does it.

Because the RAM leads such an important role in a computer you will see BIG change in one area; overall speed of your system's performance.

If you are going from 256MB to 1GB you should see a real big difference in the speed of everything on your computer; you will notice your logging in time to your PC will be real quick, software will open in an instance, windows should pop open fast and finally you will be able to multi-task if that's what you like doing.

So I hope that's covered more than just saying: it will change overall speed and your ability to multi-task.

Enjoy your new speed.

Do NOT add that much RAM until you know your computer can handle it. Check your computer manual or on the website to see what is the max RAM it will work with without overheating and melting everything.

If you can change it from 256 MB to 1 GB expect to be blown away, everything loads faster, start up is faster, shut down is faster, you can open more programs and windows at once.. etc.

Changing your RAM will allow your computer to have more memory for the tasks you are doing - that means you can have more programs and files open, you can hold more movie or music information at once, so you should get less skipping, etc.

The processor (pentium chip, etc.) controls how fast things work - if you want more speed, this is the component to upgrade.

The hard drive determines how much information can be on your computer - so if you want to store more large files on your computer this is the component to upgrade.

Peace!

A massive increase in performance. Programs will run faster in general and your computer will be less likely to slow down if you have a lot of different things running at the same time.

You will see a huge change. You will discover that youre computer runs much much faster. You will be able to open numberous programs at once without it slowing down. Things like video editing run faster if you are into burning dvd's.

It depends on how much memory your computer usually uses, if it only normally uses like 50% of it, which would be very low, then you wont see a very big difference, but it it always uses like 90-100% or so, then you'll probably see a fairly big difference.
