brake manufactures place a small metal tab on the brake pad backing plate so that when your brakes reach the point of needing replaced the metal tab will touch the brake rotor and give an audible squeal to let you know its time to replace them.
And yes you should be OK until Monday but don't put it off to long because you will cause more damage and the possibility of not having brake at all

ive owned tons (200-300 ) 0f old cars. sounds like your brakes are starting to go bad. what you are hearing are the warning tabs on the brake pads designed to warn you when your brakes are starting to get bad.when the sound doesn't go away then you need pads. pull the front tires off and look at the brake pads you will be able to see if the warning tab is touching the rotor. if so go ahead and replace the pads.the brake light on most cars is for the fluid level not the pads. that is what the warning tabs are designed for.check the pads like i said . if you can't do that and noone else can as long as the sound doesn't stay constantly on then you can go on driving the car until then. if you here what sounds like matal grinding metal stop and dont drive anymore.that is the sound of your rotors against the metal backing of the brake pads. that would cause alot of damage i f you drove farther.

Probably brake pads. Some vehicles have the sensor that squeals. Should be safe to drive. Usually the only problem it causes is that it wears the rotors which are expensive if they have to be replaced instead of turned.

You need your brake pads changed, and you better do it quick. The longer you let the brakes squeal, the more you're damaging the actual brakes. And those cost a HELL of a lot more to replace than brake pads.

you were told right, your pads need replaced and it is warning you that the pads are getting close to digging into the metal rotors, I would get them replaced as soon as possible as not to ruin your rotors and have extra expense.
