because people are gullible and stupid. they fall for myths just because society has been telling them things all their life.
heck, what about the girls who wear a shirt and tie to work? are they gay too?? geeze..
crossdressing is so fun. heck, i love my bra and panties.. wish i could feel comfortable wearing them out in the real world. but society has this sad double standard against men....

So just why do you wear women's clothing and how are the other people to know your reasons?
Not exactly technically correct, common usage is that a crossdresser is a hetero that has an extreme fetish for women's clothing. Meanwhile a transvestite is commonly seen as a homosexual that is advertising a preference for the feminine role to other homosexuals. Then there is the transsexual who is assuming a role in expression of inner identity (he SHOULD have been a she).
A man is wearing a dress. If it is not an entertainment stunt then just why would a man do that? A normal hetero male is solid in a role of masculinity, why then would a male advertise femininity?
My question to you, is why would you wonder why other people wonder why you dress incongrously to your gender? It comes with the territory--don't like it? Then either: (1) keep it at home and out of sight of others, (2) put up with other people trying to explain what they see (consider looking up the term cognitive dissonance); or (3) learn how to "pass" so an outside observer thinks you are female and never gives you a second glance. Consider it incentive to get better.

All the crossdressers I've known have been straight, so I always assume straight.
Why do others? Ignorance I guess.
Moreover, when a person doesn't know how to categorize something, they put it in what they see as the closest category.
This is why most consider polyamory to be swinging or cheating
Crossdressing to be either gay or transsexual
and atheists to be people that hate god.
Once they start to see and hear more about these groups, they alter the categories they keep, making them more accurately portrayed, mentally.

Two Reasons:
1.) People tend to lump together all things they view as negative in a certain aspect of life, so for sexuality they see homosexuality, crossdressing, polyamory, and pedophilia as relating. And while there can be connections between those, they don't understand it doesn't automatically mean a person that's into one is into another.
2.) Crossdressing isn't very masculine, and therefore, some people consider it gay.

I don't know. It's probably similar to the heterosexuals I knew that upon learning that I am gay assumed I was also a drag queen(regardless of the fact that I usually wear a full beard, sound nothing like a woman and simply would not have the build to look like a woman in any way).

Its known that 80% of crossdressers are straight.
Alot of people get crossdressers and transexualism confused because they are rarely exposed to either. This is why I always take the chance to "out" myself as a gay man when I can. It gives people a chance to KNOW one and that means they become educated.

I try not to make any assumptions about people in fact before I jumped to a conclusion about a friend of mine being gay (which I was right) I waited to see if I was right, two other friends confirmed that I was right and I had 4 things that gave me an idea and we if anything got a good laugh about made me sure that he was gay; but I didn't want to jump to any conclusions until I was sure
