Good question. I think it will take years, maybe generations if ever. The amount of hatred against America, he has created may be one of the most dangerous forces we've ever faced.

Right now, it would be impossible. We already have many people controlling Bush, and our policies. But, we just don't know who these people are. There are many bankers, private lobbyists, corporations, and other making money off the Iraq occupation. They don't want the military to leave, because these people want to finish off building bases, controlling key oil fields, making tons of money from the military industrial complex, and etc. Also, people are destroying the Dollar's value by spending it overseas. Want a solution to become once again a loved nation worldwide? Withdraw all global bases, return troops from Iraq/Afghanistan, halt all overseas spending, reduce the amount of government so corruption, greed, and all corporate lobbyists will lose power, and ultimately we'll have the government off of our backs. Lastly, but not least, promote free trade, and diplomacy worldwide, not just war. We need to uphold our Constitution once again, it was the only document that made the government powerless and non-secretive. We had more power, but day by day, the government will control only more of us. Great question.

Judging from some of the previous answers, it appears that a lot of people think that the economy 'turns-on-a-dime'. The president has no magic power that changes this country overnight. Typically, you wont see the economic effects of a president untill the next president comes into office. Maybe you should look at how Reagan and Bush SR spent years building up the US economy, to have Clinton Flush it, and pass the blame onto W.

Yes, we recovered from the Clinton war that cost us billions of dollars a week, and indebted us to China to the tune of billions. The Clinton war that gave us the largest deficit in U.S. history and a list of allies that dwindles everyday. The Clinton war that succeeded in being a rallying cry, thus enabling terrorist to recruit in record numbers. The Clinton war that divided America so much so that only 24% of the country approves of the wars handling.
Oh WAIT! There was no such war under Clinton. There was no such deficit under Clinton. Wow, I almost forgot that for a second.
In all seriousness, we'll recover. Americans are resilient, and we aren't going to let some inept leader and his mismanaged war, ruin the country. It'll take a while, but it will happen. The next few Presidents must adopt the pay/go strategy and must mend broken ties with all of our allies. It can be done. We just have to be a little more careful who we elect to run our country.

We are very resourceful, intelligent, hard-working and honest people. We will eventually recover. 8 years of one guy's rule may take several decades to recover, but we will prevail.

We were already going down the tube. He just sped things up a bit. In the late 90's early 2000's the only real growth in our economy was in the mortgage industry but this too is finally slowing down. When it finally comes to a halt we will be doomed.

As long as we continue to persecute minorities and dissidents, the US will be a beacon of freedom and liberty everywhere.
