Looking for answers for a diesel Mechanic?

Is there a DOT rule that states that in order for a Mechanic to work on a 53ft Truck he must have a CDL License???????????

Some states may have that requirement, but there is no Federal requirement, nor is it a requirement in California.
The only reason there would be a requirement for such would be for transportation from one yard to another, or from the freight yard to the repair facility, or to road-test repairs.

Need a license to drive on the street or highway. No license to drive off highway or to perform work.
