So my Blue Jays picked up Tomo Ohka who has a career ERA of 4.04. how do you guys think he will do with the homerun derby lineup of the Blue Jays?

First off, I think it's funny when other teams' fans laugh at the Jays' pitching, considering they've had the division's best ERA in each of the last two seasons - it's not like our team is broke and we're trying to fix it with Ohka.

Ohka was picked up to compete for a spot at the back of the rotation, and nothing more. With Halladay, Burnett, Thomson and Chacin, we've got the makings of a decent rotation. And I think Ohka is an improvement over the likes of Janssen or Marcum.

Remember, the Yankees had stinkers like Johnson (5.00) and Chacon (7.00) in their rotation last season, while the Sox used Matt Clement (6.61) and Kyle Snyder (6.02), so it's not like the Jays are playing catchup when it comes to starting rotations.

He's a solid role player. No ace, but gets the job done fairly well most of the time. I'm a Brewer fan and when he was out with the shoulder injury last season, it was a rough couple months trying (and failing) to find a replacement. Not to mention Sheets was also on the bench at the time but that's a whole different story. I hope Tomo does all right for the Jays. He and Overbay can reminisce about being a part of the Brewers first non-losing season in 13 years in 2005. I love Prince, but still miss Big-O.

Ohka is usually a quality starter, he worked on his delivery last year, which resulted in a bad second half, but once he regains his composure he should be a good number 3 or 4 starter. i think he might even surprise some people this year. remember hideo nomo had a couple of bad seasons then changed his delivery to a more American style than dominated for a season or two.

With the projected pitching rotation being

Halladay
Burnett
Chacin
Ohka
Thomson

if the top 3 can each rack up at least 14-17 wins and Ohka and Thomson get between 11-13 wins they SHOULD be able to snatch a wild card spot

He'll be nothing special, though not horrible either. Keep in mind he's spent most of his career in the National League. I figure his ERA will be right around 5.

As a fellow Jays fan, I think that he will need to tighten up a little. All we need is for him to be consistent and keep his ERA down.

The guy will eat up innings and hopefully keep the Jays in the game. He churns out quality starts.

The Blue Jays won't make it out of 3rd place.
