The Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union was adopted as the first Constitution of the United States by the Second Continental Congress on November 15, 1777 and was ratified on March 1, 1781. A brief explanation of the first seven follows:

1-Establishes the name of the confederation as The United States of America.
2-Enumerates the rights of the individual states.
3-Establishes the USA as a league of states with a mutual defense pact.
4-Defines freedom of movement
5-Allocates one vote in the congress for each state.
6-Limits the power of the central government.
7-Authorizes states to appoint (name) Army officers of Colonel and below.
