Recently my husband was unemployed so we haven't pay 2 months for rent.He is the only one working. I stay at home with my 4yr. old son and my newborn of 3 months and now 1 1/2 month pregnant. But he has a friend who is an illegal immagrants who has not been working for half a year living with him too, he has not been working for half a year. He is not sweating him only us. He says he has helped us but really he hasn't, we have helped him since he wouldn't provide his 3 kids and pregnant wife with markets for weeks so we use to feed them. This guy has been my husbands childhood friend. He doesn't want to do any fixing to the place were we are living. We are renting the basement for 800.00 but never wanted to provide us with the rent receipts, because he could get in trouble for renting the basement. Please give me your advise.

First of all, you need to live up to your responsibilities, like paying your own rent. I doubt any landlord in the world would do any work on a place for tenants who are behind on their rent. Second, if it's illegal for him to rent the basement, he shouldn't be renting it. Third, the other person, the illegal immigrant, isn't part of this. We are talking about you.

You say this guy hasn't helped you, but he's allowed you to live in his basement for free for two months.

If it's so terrible where you are, why don't you move to a legal apartment?

You have responsibilities and you need to live up to them. Stop complaining about what people aren't doing for you and start doing for yourself. Welfare, etc. exist for people who need some help. Go and get it.

You need to take responsibilities for yourself and take care of your children! Find another place to live, because it seems to me that your friend is a free loader and doesn't want to provide for his wife and his children because he's not willing to step up to the plate and take care of his family financially! Besides, you deserve better than that!

Rat him out and squat. Let him get in trouble.
Or, just threaten.
The laws in Long Island are that you get about a year of going through court before they get rid of you.
Where I am now, it's 30 days. So, you gotta go by that, too.
Don't bluff if you can't afford to.
But stick it to him if you can.
