On the return of a young athletic amputee war victim from Iraq to his home town. He sees a sports shop displaying the signage "We support our troops". After some in-store deliberation he approaches 'You the Store Manager' with a single running shoe, asking the following question. 'What price do you ask for this one shoe?'

Hint: I replied: "Soldier, if you buy one or a pair of shoes? We charge the same price, with a 10% discount for troops". The most realistic humorous answer gets 10 points, so start rolling.

Addressed to all the objectors,

My brother-in-law is not an amputee, but a quadriplegic. There is no fun in that! He still had a good laugh when I put it to him before posting. All I can say is get a life and laugh at the world, it will be a better place for all.

Thanks to those that have answered positively, Corylingard, Samm, and My2cents (even if you found it in poor taste), you all generated some positive answers.

Before I close this question by choosing a BEST ANSWER, which is not necessarily a CORRECT ANSWER!

I noticed that all the objectors did not answer the question, except one. They preferred to pass an opinion, which was not asked for. Henceforth they were relegated to the TRASH BIN. My message to all ANSWERERS is that you should READ and UNDERSTAND the question at hand before attempting to answer it. Do not allow personnel feelings interfere with the task at hand. When asked what is 1 multiplied by 1, don't tell me about the promiscuous behaviour of the birds and bees - which YOU might find offensive.

Although this question seems to be a fabrication of my mind, it actually transpired - to which I was a witness. The hinted answer that I gave, was what that particular shop manager said and not my words. At the time, I was going to purchase a very expensive exercise machine valued at US$ 1,500, which I did not. Because I was disgusted! I purchased my machine and the amputee got GIVEN his PAIR OF SHOES from another shop, all within my own budget.

Why Iraq? Because, almost all - are unaware of the terrorism (NOT Freedom Fighting) in South Africa. I supported the war in Afghanistan but arbour the INVASION of IRAQ. Show me the WMD, without unearthing the ashes of the past!

Personal message to Samm,
Sometimes you might show a financial LOSS, but you will PROFIT immensely in your DIGNITY and GRATITUDE, if nothing else! Keep up the good work, I would definitely recommend you to others.

I would say" For you sir it is free and we feel you have already paid too much."

Having been a vendor for 25 years I know, odds are, that the store can get a credit of some sort in this situation and be out NOTHING.

There certainly MUST or SHOULD be an odd shoe program by a major shoe company to provide for all of the amputees that are coming home.

SPEAK UP NIKE, NEW BALANCE, ANY MAJOR SHOE COMPANY WHERE ARE YOU........???????????

I find your answer in poor taste.

However, perhaps the store manager could have suggested that the customer share a purchase with someone who needs the other shoe and wears the same size. The soldier may actually know someone from physical therapy who he could share a purchase with.

Below are links to national shoe exchanges for amputees. Perhaps the manager of this shoe store should be aware of these programs.

If by chance you are serious about such a question the answer is straight forward. Your store "supports the troops" and as a genuine manger you give him the pair of shoes and tell him to take the other to the rehab centre where some one else may be able to use it.
Then you are not supporting just one trooper but another as well.
Word of mouth will spread of your generosity to able body friends and family of the vet and you may get more business.
Anyway you are probably making so much profit it will not affect your bottom line

What's so funny about an amputee asking for the price of one shoe?

My father was wounded in WWII and limped his entire life. He relied on us (6 kids + wife) to help him put his sock and shoe on every morning.

Sorry, I don't find this very amusing.

I am not amused with that. That is not funny at all. We have soliders in Iraq fighting terrorism and you are making fun of ones that have been sent home because they have been injured. Shame on you.

Not funny, Stan....if I'm the store manager, I GIVE him the shoe, and thank him for serving the country.

if the pair of shoes cost $75 dollars after 10% discount and he asked me how much for one, I would say...

Well , usually these are $75 dollars each but we have a two/for one sale today so I'll throw in the other one at no extra charge..
